Take the Guesswork Out of Your Claims
Fix Your Excess is a simple, optional add-on available on Lite, LitePlus, Essential, & Ultimate360 plans.
Instead of worrying about unexpected costs, you can enjoy a bit more peace of mind with a predictable excess. It’s a smarter way to manage your cover – helping you save by replacing the larger 25% excesses.
This new Fix Your Excess benefit replaces Premium Saver 1 000 & 2 000 for new pets wanting the add-on. Again, this is for those that want to fix their excess but aren’t already on Premium Saver. If your pet already has Premium Saver, nothing changes, & you can keep it for the next policy year, & it will renew automatically unless you decide otherwise.
If you already have one pet on Premium Saver & want to fix the excess for another pet on your policy (or one you add later), Fix Your Excess will apply to them instead, as Premium Saver is no longer available for new pets.
What happens when you add Fix Your Excess?
It’s super easy. When you choose this add-on for your fur baby, your claim excesses are replaced with a simple, fixed amount of R1 000 per claim. Members love that this add-on doesn’t cost anything, & it can really help you save when you need it.
What it replaces
- Lite & LitePlus: 25% excess (minimum R300 per claim)
- Essential & Ultimate360 Day-2-Day: R300 per claim
- Essential & Ultimate360 hospital: 25% (minimum R350 per claim)
- Ultimate360 dental: 25% (minimum R500 per claim)
What it doesn’t replace
Some benefit claim excesses stay exactly as they are, including:
- Chronic Care Support, Benefit Booster, & Routine Care add-ons have no excess
- Certain Essential & Ultimate360 benefits like behaviour, theft-related costs, & missing pet advertising (these already have no excess)
- Ultimate360 benefits with no excess (cremation, sterilisation, & prescription food)
- Holistic Wellness, supplements, & emergency boarding claim excesses remain at 18% (these are Essential & Ultimate360 plan benefits only)
A few important things to know
You can add or remove Fix Your Excess once a year, only at renewal
It’s available on all plans, except Accident plan
For Essential & Ultimate360:
A “claim” is counted as a treatment date
Overnight hospital stays are still treated as one claim
For Lite & LitePlus:
A “claim” is counted as a treatment date
Overnight hospital stays = one claim
Follow-up visits within 24 hours for the same condition = still one claim (no extra excess)
Why Pet Parents Love It
Fix Your Excess is especially helpful for those bigger, unexpected vet bills – exactly what insurance is there for.
If you don’t claim often, it’s a simple, predictable way to manage your out-of-pocket costs. It’s particularly great for “smart claimers” who prefer to keep their annual premium adjustments low & only submit large, unforeseen expenses when they really need financial support.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Fix Your Excess
It’s a free, optional add-on that replaces percentage-based & minimum excesses with a fixed R1 000. That means no surprises – you’ll always know what you’ll pay when you claim for those benefits.
Does it cost anything?
Nope – there are no extra monthly fees or hidden costs.
How does it work?
Instead of paying a percentage of your claim or minimum amount, you pay a fixed R1 000 excess.
How is this different from other options elsewhere on the market?
Many insurance plans charge an extra monthly premium for fixed excess options. With MediPet, this add-on is free – you only pay the R1 000 if you claim.
Will it affect all my benefits?
It replaces most excesses (like Day-to-Day, Hospitalisation, & Dental – the big 3), but some benefits – like add-ons & certain wellness claims – remain unchanged.
Why is it free?
Because managing your excess shouldn’t come with extra monthly costs. This gives you a simple, predictable way to plan ahead.
What about Premium Saver?
Premium Saver continues as usual for pets already on it & renews automatically each year unless you choose to remove it at renewal (before 1 June). Once removed, you can only add Fix Your Excess, as Premium Saver can no longer be added to cover.
Can I add Premium Saver to another pet?
No – new pets can only use Fix Your Excess. But if a pet has it, they get to keep it.
When does Fix Your Excess start?
It activates on your renewal date: 1 June 2026. That’s also the only time you can add or remove it, so be sure to let us know before then if you’d like to make any changes.
